The Beacon : Cincinnati hotel for guests and locals
Studio: 3rd year hospitality
Role: Trend research, branding, inspiration imagery, design of one public space and one king guest room
Problem: Brand and design a Cincinnati hotel under the Autograph Collection Hotels by conjoining two historic buildings in an urban park
Solution: Appeal to the "next" individualist and attract both guests of the city as well as Cincinnati natives to a collaborative destination
Brand Values
We are for the next individualist -the individual that appreciates quality, yet doesn’t take life too seriously, wants to make discoveries in an environment full of untapped opportunities, and keeps a sense of nostalgia while forging a provocative future. We are navigators. Classy but edgy. Providing a taste of raw. The compass.
Library/ Billiards
The public spaces are inviting to locals and guests of the area to come together in one space to spark conversation and share insights of their home or journeys. The concept for the library/billiard space was to create a masculine lounge with moments of whimsy to become an inviting and comfortable surprise above the restaurant. In the library/billiards space, circulation paths are left as public spaces while seats near windows become more private for a weary traveler, especially in the seating nooks cut into the bookshelves. As the billiard tables are set fairly central in the space, two screen walls constructed of absorbent material work to offset the sound reflection off of the original walls.

By dividing the space with a central bathroom, the entry becomes a welcome lounge to plan out a tourist route on the digital map while enjoying a Rhinegeiest IPA or Graeter's ice cream provided in the mini bar. After washing up in the bathroom, guests are welcome to choose from a stocked closet of fashion from the area. Finally, after a busy day exploring, guests can retreat to their beds to admire a few Cincinnati artist creations that are also available as a fond souvenir to take home. All used product will be charged from the guests account after leaving and be restocked to suit the next visitor.
