During my eight months at Rockwell Group in New York City, I had the privilege to work with talented designers on many unique and creative hospitality projects. The work ranged from luxury casinos and resorts to local bars. As an Interior Design Intern, the majority of my time was focused towards three projects.
The first project, Spin, was a social ping-pong bar set to open in New York City and Chicago. The New York City location was a renovation and Chicago was a new location. For the renovation, I was tasked with the design of the entry space from the street level before descending to the main space below. I utilized image inspiration from graffiti artists, sketchup, Photoshop, V-Ray, and InDesign to prepare a presentation for the client’s review and approval. For both locations, I was involved with the construction documentation in Auto-CAD of the spaces including plans, rcps, elevations, material selection, furniture drawings and details under the direction of senior and junior designers.
The second was a portion of Sunlife Stadium. Rockwell group was to redesign the interiors of several large clubs and various private suites throughout the stadium. Under the direction of one senior designer, I was responsible for material orders from vendors, the accessory schedule for the clubs including imagery and brief descriptions in Microsoft excel, communication with the 3D animation consultants, and 3D modeling of suites and clubs in sketchup to be used as a rough draft for the hand rendering consultant. With another junior designer, I helped communicate the scale, furniture selection, and materiality of the clubs to the 3D animation consultants through InDesign presentations.
The final was HardRock Seminole, a large casino and resort undergoing a large renovation and addition to their existing site. Rockwell Group redesigned the interiors of the new and existing public spaces including the southeast and northeast porte cocheres, oculus, hotel lobbies, pool promenade, retail corridor, casino, and concert hall entrance. I was responsible for communication with the rendering consultant under the direction of the senior designer, photoshoping people and elements into the perspective renderings, editing 3D Rhino models, creating the casino carpet repeat pattern in Illustrator and Photoshop, photoshoping plans, elevations, and RCPs, editing architectural specs in Spec Source, drawing furniture for plans and elevations in Auto-CAD, ordering materials, editing Sketchup models, and assisting layout the client presentations in InDesign.
